The Gift of Being a Receiver

Cleone Reed

The red hot-air balloon on this art print, The Path to Healthy Relationships, has the word "Support."

There isn't one word to describe the concept I am about to share. When someone asks for my support and I am able to give it, the other person's ability to receive is a gift to me because it gives me the opportunity to give, to help, to support. And that feels good. So it is generous to be gracious on the receiving end, whether it is a personal gift, a loan, a willing shoulder to lean on, an empathetic ear. When someone balks at receiving, they are depriving the person the pleasure of giving. When a person accepts willingly and lovingly, it is a win-win for both the giver and the receiver.
