This is a self-help guide for people suffering from mild to moderate anxiety and depression, using a multidimensional new method. This method is a combination of the well-tested and proven exposure therapy (which one of the authors helped originate) with the authors' unique system of trait and predisposition analysis, which takes the person's overall psychological makeup and inborn predilections into account, to create in effect a customized treatment for each person. This system also takes into account the three different components of anxiety, all of which must be dealt with to assure effective treatment, and includes a treatment plan for those who wish to take their recovery all the way to complete mastery—total banishment—of these troublesome conditions.
This book addresses anxiety in all its forms, including generalized anxiety, situational anxiety, multiple anxieties, very private anxieties, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias, PTSD, stress, worry, and fears, including response-based fears. It also addresses man forms of psychological depression, from depression due to losses (grief) to depression mixed with anxiety or anger, as well as other depression-related conditions such as grudges, regret, guilt, and procrastination.
“There may never have been a more timely book than Misery to Mastery: A Revolutionary New Treatment for Anxiety and Depression. Drs. Silvestri and Racine have given us a masterpiece, not only for coping with triggers for anguish and despair—but to celebrate having discovered our personal roadmap to happiness and grace. Readers are skillfully guided to not only get back on the proverbial horse, but to run victory laps over their former adversaries of anxiety and depression. In the days of COVID-19 we are blessed to have such a sorely needed resource within our grasp.”

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
RICHARD SILVESTRI, Ph.D., has been in practice as a clinical psychologist for more than forty years, specializing in the treatment of depression and anxiety-based disorders. He has done far more hours of actual therapy than most psychologists, and he was called one of the top fourteen therapists in the country by Cosmopolitan magazine.
Dr. Silvestri has also been an assistant professor in the New Jersey state college system, director of the Graduate Program in Psychology at William Paterson College (1973–78),and Senior Psychologist for the Family Courts of New York City (1977–79).
Dr. Silvestri developed a method of treatment for anxiety that has become the treatment of choice within the therapeutic community for many anxiety-related problems. His first book, CT: The Astounding New Confrontation Therapy (William Morrow, 1978), presented that technique with great success.
How to Fall Out of Love... and Land on Your Feet (written with Byrna Taubman, St. Martin's Press, 1995) provided readers with a new and highly effective approach to the problems of letting go of an unsatisfying, abusive, or mismatched relationship.
In addition to his two earlier books, Dr. Silvestri has written articles for both popular and scholarly publications, and he has been cited as an expert source in many national magazines. He has appeared on radio and both national and local television to promote his books.
He is married with two daughters and lives in New Jersey.
JILLIAN RACINE, Ph.D., is a scholar-practitioner in the field of clinical psychology. She divides her time between clinical practice, research, and training and supervising Psychology Fellows. Her practice specializes in evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure response prevention (ERP). Dr. Racine enjoys working with children, adolescents, and adults. She is also passionate about helping family members and caregivers of individuals dealing with mental health challenges.
Dr. Racine has partnered with the University of Texas and Pennsylvania State University on mental health research. She has published several academic articles and presented at national conferences on evidence-based approaches for mental health treatment.
