The Power of Reverse Mentoring: A Father and Daughter's Professional Journey by Garry J. Peterson
FROM THE PREFACE: Garry J. Peterson was inspired to write THE POWER of REVERSE MENTORING as a definitive instrument for understanding and utilizing unique business opportunities. It provides an experiential roadmap built upon many lifetime lessons and focuses on strong business principles for any person, team, or business group to develop a clear and manageable business improvement process, using proven tools. Experience is the best teacher you have as you do things—truly the basis of this book. It is, in a sense, an open door to the future, a predictive discipline that will allow the reader to put a plan together germane to their business setting that takes the relentless challenges and overwhelming day-to-day issues and makes them manageable!
The business world, just like life, is all about making decisions each day without even thinking about it. And to always make the best decision is ludicrous and unreal. What the author is providing is the opportunity to utilize 40-plus years of business experience to help make those key decisions better and with more confidence, in tandem with many years of working with his business-savvy daughter, Sarah Peterson.
The integral focus of this book is mentoring—in its scope and breadth. It will give the reader a roadmap of any size company and any culture that is present. His suggestion is twofold: Bring mentoring into play to enhance day-to-day performance improvement and use it to determine where the methods and techniques presented align with your business environment and focus on those as your “solution set.”
And, with Customer Relationship Management as critical today as ever, these tried-and-true methods and real-life examples should significantly reduce the stress of risk-taking and become the absolute “got to do” tools for you to use today.
There are two main characters in this book. One is the author, whose experiences form the basic operational improvement process within the scope, and the second is the author’s daughter Sarah, a millennial, and her demographics represent an acknowledged need.
The author will also use a word of his that is not found in any American dictionary. That word is "expective". By way of definition, an objective is an outcome that you plan to achieve. An expective is far more powerful. It is an outcome that will be achieved!
Peterson's intention for this book is that it is the epitome of simple and robust guidelines…the instrument to answer that most difficult and constantly asked question: When the URGENT pushes out the IMPORTANT, how do you find time for the IMPORTANT?
